The Australian Government has released the Draft National Wildlife Corridors Plan for public comment. The draft Plan lays the foundation for a new, collaborative, whole-of-landscape approach to biodiversity conservation that is based on voluntary cooperation and the existing efforts of communities, landholders, governments and industry.
The Plan can be viewed here [1], and comments submitted here [2]. Further information on the Plan, including some background to its development by the National Wildlife Corridors Plan Advisory Group, is available here [3].
The Plan sets out a policy direction for connectivity in the landscape, with corridors as one way of doing that. A number of existing large scale corridors projects are identified, as well as some proposed corridors and a process for community initiation of future corridors.
The closing date for public comment is Friday 20th April 2012.
